A PLANNING application has been submitted to build 75 new homes on Green belt land adjacent to USP Palmer's College campus on the edge of Grays.

The proposed scheme will consist of 57 houses and 18 apartments which will be sold, with the developers required to make contribution to the local community in respect of affordable housing and education.

The site, opposite the college and adjacent to a massive new housing estate that replaced Thurrock's former Tech College, consists of a triangular parcel of land situated between Wood View on its northern boundary and Chadwell Road on its southern boundary.

A western boundary of the site is defined by King Edward Drive.

The application is submitted by developers TSA SX Ltd and Whirledge & Nott who say the site is well served in terms of community services and essential support services.

Though the scheme is in the green belt, the applicants say the fact that Thurrock is so behind its five year housing land supply targets means the new homes would help claw back the deficit and that outweighs impact on the green belt.
