THURROCK mayor Cllr James Halden visited Tudor Court Primary School in Chafford Hundred today to help plant a Jubilee tree and and have afternoon tea with pupils.

Planting of the tree to mark the late Queen Elizabeth's platinum jubilee was delayed because of the hot summer conditions and drought but it is now in place, with pupils from across the school's age groups helping plant it.

They were all winners of an arts competition held in school to mark the jubilee.

Cllr Halden told the children they should remember the jubilee as a landmark in history and the tree would always bring back memories of it.

After the planting Cllr Halden enjoyed afternoon tea with pupils during which time he took part in a varied question and answer session about his role, the council and the democratic process.
