A POLICE investigation has been launched into circumstances related to a controversial and twice defered planning application made to Thurrock Council.

Thurrock Nub News reported last week on the decision, at the last minute, to defer debate on the application for a new logistics park in the green belt.

The meeting was due to consider the application for the Mardyke Logistics Park after it was deferred in controversial circumstances last month.

However, with local residents and supporters of the scheme in the public gallery anxiuous to hear the debate and a decision, committee chairman Cllr Tom Kelly anounced that the application could not go ahead for 'legal reasons' following information being given to officers.

Thurrock Nub News understands the concern surrounds messages sent to members of the planning committee. At least one has now been questioned by the police.

A statement today (Tuesday, 22 August) from the council says: "A decision on the application was deferred for legal reasons and the matter has been referred to the police."

It is not known when, or if, the application will return to the committee. It was being recommended for refusal by officers - but has had support from some council members.
