Police called after report of assault as driver and resident clash on troubled road. Residents tell of 'blood everywhere'

POLICE are in attendance and investigating what appears to be a serious incident on a Stanford-le-Hope Road.

It was initially being reported locally that a man has died but that was not confirmed by police Who commented almost immediately and was later confirmed as rumour.

A statement from the force says: "We received reports at around 6.10am today, Thursday 30 July, that a man had been assaulted in Wharf Road, Stanford-le-Hope.

"We attended along with ambulance and the victim, a man in his 50s, suffered an injury to his face.

"We carried out our enquiries before arresting another man on suspicion of assault. He is currently being taken to custody.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Grays CID on 101 quoting incident 219 of 30/07 or you can visit www.essex.police.uk.

Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Police have since added he has a cut to his eye and it reports of a death circulating locally were incorrect.

Wharf Road has become a controversial site in the borough due to lorries consistently breaching traffic regulations.

Local residents report 'there is blood everywhere' and some have commented a man has died.
