POLICE have released limited information about an incident that happened earlier in the week that has led to an area of a playing field being cordoned off today (Saturday, 2 October).

The force has been able to say the incident on the Billet playing fields in the east of the town does not involve a murder or GBH offence but have remained vague otherwise.

A statement from Essex Police issued this morning says: "We are responding to an incident which is alleged to have occurred between 5pm and 11.50pm on Thursday 30 September 2021 in the Billet Field area of Stanford-le-Hope.

"No arrests have been made and detectives are progressing their enquiries. There will be a police presence in the area throughout the day."

The landlady at the nearby Crooked Billet pub, Leah, has asked Thurrock Nub News to add that the incident is not connected with the pub.
