POLICE have released details of a cannabis farm discovered in the heart of Tilbury.

They were being grown in the derelict premises of the former Calcutta Club on Calcutta Road - a building planned to be demolished shortly to make way for flats.

A statement from Essex Police says: "Officers carried out a warrant at an address in Calcutta Road, Tilbury on 27 April.

"Inside they found around 1,000 cannabis plants. Two men – aged 20 and 45 – were arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation.

"They have since been released on bail until 24 May."
