LAST night's three vehicle crash on Marshfoot Road between Tilbury and Little Thurrock resulted in two people being taken to major trauma centres after being cut from vehicles - however, their injuries have subsequently proved not to be too serious.
The road was closed for several hours as a multitude of emergency teams, including medics taken to the scene by the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, worked together.
A statement today from the ambulance service says: "We were called to Marshfoot Road shortly after 5pm yesterday (Tuesday, 13 April) following reports of a collision.
"We sent three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.
"Crews treated three patients at the scene before transporting them to hospital for further assessment and care."
The air ambulance team said: "An Essex & Herts Air Ambulance was tasked to assist East of England Amulance Service, Essex Police and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, with a male and female patient involved in a road traffic collision.
"Teams worked together on scene to optimise patient outcome.
"The patients were transferred to a major trauma centre for ongoing treatment."
However, Essex Police have logged the incident as a minor injury collision which appears to downplay concerns by local residents and a ward councillor who believe that the junction is an accident blackspot.
Indeed that was the opinion of police in 2019 when they called on Thurrock Council to make changes to the junction - which did not appear to ever happen.
There have been innumerable minor accidents at the junction, and many major ones. In a 2019 Thurrock Independent newspaper report, which noted the police call for action, it was stated a check on the police's own major incident website showed there had been 'ten major incidents at the junction in two years.'
Police declined to issue a statement on the crash today, saying: "Our call log states that it was a minor injury collision. We don't believe it caused any disruption to any of our major routes so on that basis we won't be providing a statement on this occasion."
