POLICE had to use force to bring an incident in Stanford to a safe conclusion after two people were involved in an incident in Stanford-le-Hope town centre yesterday.

A statement from Essex Police says: "We can confirm two people have been detained under the Mental Health Act following reports of a disturbance in Stanford-le-Hope around 3.50pm on Tuesday 2 December).

"Officers were called to concerns for the welfare of a man and woman in the area.

"Due to escalating concerns for the people involved, the man was tasered by officers before they were both detained in hospital.

"Thank you to members of the public who alerted us to the situation."
