Police update on 'shocking' Tilbury incident. Officers seeking quad bike riders - man recovering in hospital with 'non-life-changing' injuries

FOLLOWING a 'shocking' and reportedly violent incident in Tilbury last evening (Friday, 14 June) Police are seeking the public's help to find out what happened and resulted in a man being taken to hospital - where his injuries are described as 'not life-changing'.

Following the incident police have stepped up their presence in the area today.

Social media reports have suggested the was beaten or stabbed - with some reporting a death. The incident has not resulted in a death, though police remain tight-lipped about what they know, while attempting to garner more information from resdients and potential witnesses who were in the area.

A statement says: "We were called to St Chads Road, Tilbury, shortly after 6.15pm on Friday, 14 June following reports of a collision involving a quad bike and a pedestrian.

"The road was closed to the public whilst we carried out investigative enquiries at the scene to establish the facts.

"A man, 20s, has been taken to hospital – his injuries are not thought to be life-changing

"Our enquiries continue." 

DI Leanne Ford, said: "I'd like to reassure the public that we are working hard to identify two people who were on a quad bike that collided with a pedestrian.

"It would have been quite shocking to witness and we're asking anyone who saw what happened to contact us.

"Please quote incident 1024 of 14 June when providing any information to make sure it gets to the right person as quickly as possible. "

"We will have officers in the area today carrying out high visibility patrols to reassure the community. They are there to listen to your concerns, so please stop and talk to them."
