TILBURY Band failed to make it to the honours board, but performed well in Section Two of the national Brass band Championships at the weekend.

The band performed on Sunday (15 September) at Chelmsford Racecourse where they played the test piece: Albinus Variations  by Etienne Crausaz.

The judge's comments were: "Good opening and build in both tempo and volume, well controlled and good style, some great use of dynamics. The balance across the band is good.

"We get a few slips here and there but the flow of the band is maintained. It's a lovely sound and takes us nicely into a very well controlled slower section that the band handle very well.

"We lose momentum briefly but get back on track and progress well with good use of dynamics and nice tidy playing. A nice build to the end."

A social media post from the band said: "It's been a long road with an exciting and challenging piece, which we have all really enjoyed. We know we've put in our best effort."
