RESIDENTS in a Purfleet area got together to take part in a clean-up of their community and gathered in many sacks of rubbish.

The event in the Caspian Way residential area was organised by resident Emma Thompson who quickly got support from some more local people, including Laura Eaketts who said afterwards: "Thank-you Emma for organising.

"Lovely to meet you all. Thank you and well done on the litter pick! Thanks to Emma for putting the idea out there. I am up for doing it more often too!"

And the group has been praised by ward councillor Qaisar Abbas who said: "I have now met Emma Thompson and others. They have done something amazing. Well done to all of them."
