Prime viewing: A right royal production at the Thameside
THEATRE-goers in Grays will get the chance to see a noted political play in June when, to mark the Queen's platinum jubilee, Thurrock Courts Players will perform 'The Audience', written by Peter Morgan (creator of Netflix's smash hit 'The Crown').
The play centres around the private audiences the Queen has had with her prime ministers over the years, from Winston Churchill to David Cameron.
Directed by Luke Coldham, four performances will run at the Thameside Theatre from Thursday, 9 June to Saturday, 11 June, including a matinee on the Saturday.
Director Luke Coldham says: "I have wanted to put this play on stage for so long. Perfectly timed to fit in with the jubilee our audiences will get to be flies on the wall for what was the most private conversations ever exchanged between sovereign and state.
"There are a mixture of scandalous revelations and true human sentimentality sprinkled with hilarity and nostalgia."
Three Players, Louise Alsop, Victoria Grayling and Victoria Grayling, will portray the Queen through the ages.
Among the prime minsters will be Vic Gray (Churchill), David Carey (Harold Wilson), Josh Handley (Tony Blair) and Colin Gibbons (Cameron).
