A CHILDREN'S nursery in Chadwell St Mary has had its registration suspended by Ofsted after concerns were raised about the health and safety of children.

Cherubs Firststeps on Waterson Road has not responded to a request for information about its current situation but Ofsted has confirmed its action.

The nursery takes children from the age of six weeks until five years old. It also offers after-school childcare up until the age of eight.

A statement on the nursery's website says: "Our last Ofsted report marked our nursery at 'Good' and we would have acheived the highest award 'outstanding' if it wasn't for the fact our facilities are shared among the community for clubs and small groups in the evenings."

However, Ofsted says: "We take the safety and welfare of children very seriously.

"Ofsted has suspended the registration of this setting nursery while we carry out our investigation. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
