AN innovative art installation due to open in Tilbury this week has been postponed.

This weekend was due to see the launch of the Tilbury Bridge Walkway of Memories, an outdoor art and sound installation conceived by artist Everton Wright, who goes by the name EVEWRIGHT.

But it has now been postponed and organisers have issued a statement, saying: "Following the government's latest advice on social distancing and meeting in groups of no larger than six people, Evewright Arts Foundation (EAF) regret to announce our full launch weekend outdoor programme and live performances, due to take place on the 19 & 20 September is postponed.

"The installation will open to the general public as soon as we are able to do so based on government advice. The artwork will then be on display through to Spring 2021."

Tilbury Bridge Walkway of Memories the first site-specific art and sound installation to be held at the Port of Tilbury and the UK dedicated to people of the Windrush Generation.

EVEWRIGHT said: "This outdoor weekend launch event was oversubscribed within days! The demand shows the level of interest from the public to see and experience art in a new way.

"We are keen to ensure the public don't miss out as we will preview online, selected artworks from the installation, until we can invite visitors back to the site.

"We will also introduce you to some of the amazing stories from our many contributors who were willing to share their Windrush stories."
