A FUN day at a borough pub raised more than £1,200 for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

It took place at the Woodlands Edge pub in South Ockendon and included stalls, games, raffles, a barbecue, DJ and face painting.

After the event the pub's management expressed thanks to all supporters, particularly event organiser Kelly Murray, saying: "Here at the Woodlands Edge we are shouting it from the roof top that Kelly Murray has been working incredibly hard behind the scenes organising and put together this Macmillan family fun day and what a fun day it was.

"From the whole Woodlands team we thank you."

And the fun in the local community for a good cause will continue this weekend with a charity cricket match featuring staff and customers on Sunday (12 September) at Ockendon Rec, 2pm.

The match is between the Woodlands Warriors and George's XI – again in support of Macmillan.

You can support the players by making a donation here.

And after the match, at around 6pm, pub team leader Adam will be having his leg waxed

And the commitment of pub staff to the cause is repeated on Saturday, 26 September when team member Karis will be dunked in custard!
