RESIDENTS in Purfleet-on-Thames were treated to an evening of light, music and dance.

The 'Light-Up Purfleet' event, organised by the Grays-based arts organisation 'Arts Outburst', took place on Friday, 17 March and included a parade from the Harris Riverside Academy to the High House Production Park.

As well as the parade and events on the evening at High House the light festival included creative workshop opportunities in its build-up and residents were encouraged to design and create their own lanterns.

The event was the successor to light-up events held in five borough communities over three weeks in 2022 - but this year it was condensed into one event.

Among the professionals taking part were the Spark Drummers from the Kent-based Worldbeaters music company.

A spokesperson for the troop said: "What a wonderful time in Purfleet. We loved sharing the streets with so many other wonderful acts, with everyone's home-made lanterns lighting the way.

"Thanks so much to Arts Outburst for inviting us to be part of this brilliant event and we hope to see you all again next year."
