A FUNDRAISING Christmas craft fayre run by Thurrock branch of the Re-engage charity has proved a big success.

The event, held on Sunday (30 November) at Belhus Village Hall, raised £1,520 which will help the charity support the borough's lonely, elderly and vulnerable community.

Event organiser was Maggie Whitlock who said: "What a wonderful day it was.

"The Santa's grotto was amazing and all the volunteers who ran it did a terrific job.

"Ira and her friend were brilliant in the tea bar. The tombola was fantastic - thank you to all the ladies who managed it

"Mick and Alan did a sterling job on the drinks tombola and our ladies on the bric-a-brac managed to sell so much.

"What can I say about our lovely ladies Pauline, Sheila and Doreen not only do they come along to sell they make it all as well.

"A very huge thank you to everyone who helped with our day. We could not do this without you.

"This money will go towards helping us to carry on with our tea parties in 2026."

Maggie's words were echoed by regional organiser Loraine Coleman who added: "What a fabulous event.

"I must offer a huge well done to Maggie for the wonderful organisation and to everyone who worked so hard to make the day such a success.

"Raising more than £1,500 was remarkable.

"Also thanks to our very generous community for supporting us — your kindness and generosity helped us to raise such a brilliant amount.

"We were delighted to see so many friends, family members, volunteers, and tea party guests with us. Your support and participation made this incredible total possible.

"Thank you all so, so much."
