POLICE have confirmed details of two incidents at the weekend which caused roads in Stanford-le-Hope to be blocked while emergency services responded.

On Friday (28 November) Southend Road, between the junctions with Hudsons Close and Nursery Road, was closed at rush hour.

Police say: "We were called to reports of a collision between a car and a lorry in Southend Road just before 3.40pm.

"The driver of the car was taken to hospital for assessment. No injuries were reported to us.

Police closed Southend Road while vehicles were recovered.

"There was disruption to traffic for around three hours while the vehicles were moved from the scene."

And in the early hours of Sunday (30 November) four vehicles were involved in an incident, also on Southend Road but nearer the town centre.

Police said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving four cars in Southend Road, Stanford-le-Hope, at about 4.50am on Sunday 30 November.

"At the scene it was reported a car was involved in a collision with three parked cars

"The driver, a 36-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

"She has been released on bail and our enquiries are ongoing."

Police are also continuing to investigate another incident in the town centre that took place on the evening of Saturday, 22 November when a car crashed into the window of the Havens Hospice charity shop on King Street.

Thanks to information and video supplied by local people, the driver of the car has been identified and police say he is scheduled to be interviewed.
