PLANS are well underway for an event next month to highlight the danger drivers might pose to horses and their riders that use local roads and the consequences to drivers and vehicles of driving too close to horses.

A group of riders will be meeting at the Dog and Partridge pub on North Stifford High Road on Sunday, 18 September. From there they plan to undertake a 'Pass Wide and Slow' awareness ride along the B1335 to Aveley.

Event organiser Cornell Olive Heiser says: "Our aim is to gain attention and educate non-equestrians in a pleasant way without resorting to demonstrations on how to pass horses safely on the roads so we can all get home safely.

"This is even more important this year with the changes in the Highway Code that came into effect on 29 January."

The Dog and Partridge has offered riders space to leave their trailers and will open the pub's kitchen to offer hospitality prior to departure at 10am.

Riders will turn right down Stifford hill and do a right onto the B186 up to the lights and left onto the B1335. Have a quick stop over at the Larwood Care home on Fullbrook Lane and from there will continue along the B1335 through Aveley Village.

Riders will turn around when reaching the Esso garage and return the same way to the Dog and Partridge.

Full details of the ride and how you can get involved are available via this link.
