A BURST water main blocked a busy borough road and caused water pressure problems for nearby residents.

It happened late this afternoon on Springhouse Road, Corringham, close to the junction with Southend Road.

Police and an Essex and Suffolk Water engineer were quickly on the scene and an engineering crew has been despatched, though at 6pm there was no set time as to when they might be able to start work.

Residents have reported a loss of pressure, acknowledged by Essex and Suffolk Water who, in the immediate aftermath of the incident Tweeted: "We're aware some customers in the area are experiencing no water/low pressure Our team is investigating."

At 10pm a further announcement said: "We'll be working throughout the night to repair a burst and restore supplies for our customers. If you need emergency help this evening, please call 03457820999."
