Roadworks return once more to busy road - it's the hole that won't go away!

ONCE again engineers have turned up, blocked roads and commenced work to repair a gas main on one of the most troubled spots in Stanford-le-Hope. .
Over recent years the junction of London Road and Ruskin Road has been closed many times, with traffic lights holding vehicles at the junction, which also includes Kingsman Road.
Work means the pedestrian crossing close to the junction is out of action.

This morning (Thursday, 29 May) traffic management crews set up the lights and Cadent gas engineers got to work, after another leak was discovered.
The last major works were in 2023 when Cadent said they would be replacing the whole main, but that wasn't don and another running repair was carried out. The junction was blocked earlier this year for around a week more work on the local supply.
One of the engineers on site this morning said he apologised for coming back, saying: "There is a leak, its got to be fixed but really the whole main should be replaced. This is not the first time I've worked on this job."
It is not known how long the work will take but it is likely to cause delays on the busy London Road, on which four local bus routes run.

Work on digging the hole commenced around 10.30am, quickly revealing the old main which has a number of fractures requiring repair.
The consensus of engineers was the hole main needs replacing, with an estimate put forward that new fractures could happen within six months!

An emergency Road closure notice was posted by Thurrock Council this morning, saying the council had been alerted at 9.35am today - after the works site had been prepared and the lights put up by Cadent. The notice says the works are likely to be completed by Friday, 6 June.
