ORTU Hassenbrook Academy is among the first of what is expected to be a lengthy list of schools closures because of the snow.

All the GLC schools in Chadwell and Tilbury are closed: The Gateway Academy; The Gateway Primary Free School; Herringham Primary Academy; Lansdowne Primary Academy; Tilbury Pioneer Primary Academy.

St Clere's in Stanford-le-Hope is closed and the school has, in part, blamed a lack of gritting.

A statement this morning says: " Due to the amount of snow on the school site and the fact that the buses cannot safely bring children to school in these conditions, we have decided to close the school today and clear the site in preparation for opening tomorrow.

"Side roads and East Tilbury particularly, have not been gritted and safety is our top priority. Staff have been asked to ensure the lessons are on TEAMS and pupils can also use their Prep programme for study.

"All being well, we plan to open the site as usual tomorrow."

ORTU Gable Hall is closed, as is Ormiston Park at Aveley, where a statement says it has not been possible to clear the school roads and paths.

Some schools are open including Harris Academy , Ockendon:

Horndon Primary is also open.

William Edwards School and Orsett Heath Academy are reported closed.
