Scooters put riders in harm's way in accidents in Thurrock - woman was left in 'life-threatening' condition as air ambulance landed

TWO incidents involving 'scooters' caused significant traffic disruption in Thurrock this afternoon - and emergency services fear one may have serious consequences.

One happened on Blackshots Lane in Grays shortly after 3pm today, (Friday, 6 May) following reports of a collision involving a car and an e-scooter.

The rider of the e-scooter was taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.

Police enquiries are ongoing, and a statement from Essex Police says they would like anyone who saw anything to contact them.

The other incident happened on Cygnet View, at Lakeside on the approach to the Lakeside Retail Park, at 2.55pm when reports suggested there had been a two-vehicle collision. One of those vehicles is believed to be a mobility scooter. A woman was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The Essex Air Ambulance was called to the scene and roads around the area were blocked, causing significant congestion in the Lakeside area.

A statement from Essex Police said: "Our enquiries are ongoing, and we need anyone who saw anything to contact us.

"If you have any information you can submit a report online as detailed above. Please quote incident number 675 of 6 May."
