A THURROCK campaigner for children's rights found guilty of harassment of the borough's MP has been given a community service order to cary out 120 hours of unpaid work and instructed he must not pursue her further in relation to his campaigning.

Jack Barnes, 46, of South Ockendon, spent two nights locked up late last year after complaints were received by police that that he was harassing MP Jackie Doyle-Price, with particular reference to incidents outside Thurrock Council's Civic Offices and the local Conservative party offices on London Road, West Thurrock.

When the case came before Basildon magistrates he was found guilty but because of coronavirus sentence was delayed until this month.

After a pre-sentence report was delivered magistrates have now ordered he has to carry out unpaid work to benefit the local community.

In addition he must spend 19 days in an accredited rehabilitation programme.

He must Not post on social media or broadcasting anything mentioning Jackie Doyle-Price and is not to contact her directly or indirectly. In addition he cannot go within 100 yards of the Conservative Campaign Office at 799 London Road, Grays, or to any address where he knows or suspects Ms Doyle-Price to be.

Earlier this year Barnes, who is referred to as 'Scouse Megaphone Man' successfully applied to the court for a lifting of a restriction forbidding him to campaign using his loud speaker and he has since taken up his children's rights campaign on the streets of London.
