Cllr Sue Sammons is calling for council action after another crash on Buckingham Hill Road today.

A SECOND Thurrock councillor has called on the local authority to take more action in ensuring that local roads are kept in a safer condition.

After the latest in a number of accidents on local roads in the east Thurrock area, where large trucks regularly haul materials to and from local landfill sites - and from the A13 road widening project - Cllr Sue Sammons has spoken up.

Another accident happened on Buckingham Hill Road today (Sunday, 10 January) and fears are rising that it may not be long before there is a fatality.

One resident has told on social media of a narrow escape for her mother, whose car skidded into the path of a lorry and others have detailed near misses.

Conservative Cllr Sammons has echoed the fears of her ward colleague Cllr Fraser Massey by calling on the council to take action.

She says: "I have been emailing highways since the first accident earlier in the week but had no reply. I am asking for signs to say 'mud on roads' and for enforcement to look at cause of the mud.

"This gets worse each year and now with lots of new residents who are not aware of the slippery surfaces it is becoming increasingly dangerous."

In November Cllr Sammons was extremely critical of Thurrock council over the traffic calming measures it has implemented in East Tilbury, saying they were completely ineffective and a waste of money.
