The guards have been criticised for the way they handled the incident and one member of the team, who walked up to people filming the incident, has been slammed for his scornful and contemptuous attitude as he tried to block those recording footage.

A spokesperson for intu lakeside said: "I can confirm that a member of the public was arrested by Essex Police at intu Lakeside following an incident on Friday afternoon (13 December).

"Our security team attended to ensure the safety of everyone, which is our number one priority.

"We are continuing to work alongside Essex Police on this matter."
