CONSULATION events continue this week as part of a project to repair and reopen the Grade II* Riverside Station in Tilbury.

The Tilbury on the Thames Trust working in partnership with the Port of Tilbury and supported by the Tilbury Riverside Project to transform this iconic station into a vibrant community hub, complete with a café, outdoor seating, creative lets, and an exhibition space that celebrates the rich history of Tilbury.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: Help us to get the Riverside Station Back on Track! We are working towards a February 2024 submission to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, asking for £3.4M to create open up year round access to the Grade II* Riverside Station with a new café space and outdoor seating and creative lets, alongside an exhibition to tell the stories of those who lived, worked and travelled through Tilbury.

"If successful in securing investment, we anticipate these works to be completed in 2026."

The partnership has been awarded a Development Phase grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

In addition to the building works, they are committed to running an educational programme with local schools and providing skills and training opportunities.

They the partnership is also planning a range of public events, including farmers markets and performances, to make the most of the station's vast space. A local community fund will be available for groups to pitch their own ideas for animating the building.

The team has developed initial proposals and are eager to hear your thoughts. Your feedback will be invaluable in refining the plans before a second round of public and stakeholder engagement later this year.

Information on the plans can be found here: http://tott.org.uk/consultation/

A partnership spokesperson said: "It is important to us that we hear your views and those of the people you work with. There is a survey: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/TilburyRiversideConsultationSept2023.

The Tilbury on the Thames Trust was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in February 2016.

The Trust is governed by a board of six trustees drawn from the Port of Tilbury and the local community, bringing considerable expertise in skills and training, regeneration and local community knowledge to this project.

This board has approved a vision statement which is to blend community and commercial uses at the Grade II* Cruise Terminal complex in Tilbury as part of a wider ambition to restore heritage, generate training opportunities and connect the Port of Tilbury to the communities of the Thames Gateway. www.tott.org.uk
