Shed damaged in blaze caused by overcharged scooter battery at Tilbury home: Fire service offer up warning

FIREFIGHTERS have given their safety advice after a shed and fence panels were destroyed in an electrical fire in Tilbury started by an electric scooter battery that was bring charged and overheated.

The incident happened just before 9pm yesterday (Sunday, 21 March) in Brennan Road, Tilbury, and was attended by fire crews from Orsett and Grays. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 9:15pm.

Watch Manager Kev Hercock from Orsett Fire Station said: "Take care when using chargers, especially for products with Lithium-ion batteries. Never leave items charging unattended and do not leave them charging for longer than they need to be as they can quickly overheat."
