STUDENTS at Thames Park School in Grays have been celebrating after success in a major competition.

A team of dancers from the Chadwell Road secondary triumphed in the recent Jack Petchey 'Take the Stage' event with a dynamic routine featuring songs by Michael Jackson.

Dance teacher and head of drama Miss Terri Foreman said: "We are so proud of our amazing TP ELITE dance team. The students work so hard and rehearse during a long session after a busy school day but they always give 100 per cent.

"Their dedication has really paid off.

"The performance was the result of months of dedication, commitment and teamwork. Students rehearsed every week after school, often staying until 5:30pm, continually refining every movement and pushing themselves to deliver a professional and memorable performance. Their hard work, determination and willingness to challenge themselves played a huge part in the success of the routine.

"The dance was first performed at our Winter Concert, where it received an incredible reaction from the primary school pupils invited to attend. The performance was so memorable that many of the children now affectionately refer to lead dancer Reggie as "MJ", highlighting the impact the routine had on the audience.

"Parents, staff and visitors were equally amazed by the energy, precision and showmanship displayed by the students, and it was this overwhelming response that inspired us to enter the Jack Petchey competition.

"For many students, the event provided a valuable opportunity to experience a professional performance environment, including working backstage and performing as part of a large-scale production. It was an unforgettable experience that allowed them to develop confidence, resilience and teamwork skills beyond the classroom.

"This competition marked TP ELITE's first ever external competition, making the achievement even more special. Winning first place and securing a £1,000 prize is a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to the dedication of everyone involved.

"The team has already decided to invest the prize money into their next production, helping to enhance costumes, sets and overall production value. We are incredibly proud of every student who took part and cannot wait to see what TP ELITE achieves next."
