Our weekly preview of 'What's On in Thurrock' picks out a selection of events hosted on our events guide.

A weekend of things to do across Thurrock kicks off on Friday morning with a joyful interactive story show for children aged five and over and their grown ups!
Peter, Sally and the Sea takes place at the Thameside Theatre in Grays at 11.30.am.

For decades past, this August weekend has seen the traditional carnival procession through Corringham and Stanford-le-Hope.
However, last year's event proved to be the last. But the spirit of carnival lives on and there will be a fun day on Saturday at the Mobile Field off Billet Lane, including a classic car show.

The weekend also includes a craft fair, taking place on Saturday in Grays.

Saturday morning will see veterans and guests, including the borough Mayor, attend the annual VJ Day commemoration at the Burma Star Rose Garden on Wingfield Drive, Orsett.
The service will start around 10.45am.
And there will be another ceremonial event - though one not without fun and laughter - at the Purfleet-on-Thames Heritage Centre on Sunday.
The Gurkha festival, starting on Sunday at 10am, will include the formal unveiling of a new Gurkha monument.
