Historic terminal played host to afternoon of celebration and memories

By Nub News Reporter 8th May 2025

THE Port of Tilbury's international cruise terminal hosted a successful VE event this afternoon that brought more than 200 people together for fun and remembrance.

In the historic rail station there was music, dancing, and displays from the Tilbury Riverside Project – plus tea, coffee and cake kindly served by the Seafarers Centre volunteers.

Among those enjoying the afternoon were guests of the Re-engage charity and its volunteers.

Alongside other event visitors they enjoyed watching the primary school pupils from the Gateway Learning Community dancing.

They were treated to cake and refreshments.

Re-enage guests.

Regional co-ordinator Loraine Coleman said: "A Very big thank you to Meenue Thomas from The Port of Tilbury for organising such fabulous event for the local community.

"Thank you to Maggie for organising the event for Re-engage.

"And thank you to our lovely volunteers for driving our guests today, especially Kirsty who stepped in at the last minute.

"It was such a special event to remember Victory in Europe 80 years ago today."
