Woodside Academy in Grays celebrated VE Day in style with a variety of fun activities for the children, including traditional dancing, class style street parties and a picnic lunch.

Also, traditional games of the era were played and war time music could be heard throughout the day.

Pupils were given time to reflect on the importance of the event and the sacrifices made by so many for our freedom.

Woodside created a whole school VE symbol while undertaking a two-minute silence on their school field.

School council representatives showed their respect at the war memorial in Grays Town Centre.

Principal Jen Ryder stated how proud she was of the respect shown by the children and staff of Woodside and of how they captured the essence of celebration throughout the day.
