Spooks abound on family ride

By Neil Speight 28th Oct 2022

GHOSTS, skeletons and monsters have been seen in Chadwell St Mary taking part in a Halloween family ride, organised by Thurrock Council's Road Safety Cycling Team.

More than 25 children and adults joined in the free Halloween cycle ride on Wednesday, 26 October starting outside the Pyramid Resource Centre, Chadwell St Mary.

Two routes were offered enabling scooters, cyclists, walkers and friends, family members or participants using wheelchairs to take part in the spooky fun.

Youngsters set off on one of the routes.

Children also decorated their bikes, hung lights on their scooters and a wheelchair was covered in Halloween tinsel and a large spider.

Cllr Ben Maney, cabinet member for transport and public safety, said: "Our Road Safety Cycling Team has done a marvellous job helping our residents get active, boost their mental health and enjoy sustainable travel around the borough.

"As well as this Halloween ride which 29 adults and children took part in, this year they've also held a family bike and craft ride, and helped residents enjoy nature with a Riddle Ride around RSPB Rainham Marshes.

"Unfortunately, the Vintage/Tweed Bike ride organised with Love Hardie Park was cancelled following news of Queen Elizabeth II's passing.

"The costumes and decorations look fantastic – well done to everyone who took part. Thank you to the Pyramid Resource Centre for the use of their facilities and resources."
