Standstill continues on local deaths

FOR a third day the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Thurrock has remained static, at 51.

The numbers across the borough are:

Aveley 5

South Ockendon 8

Purfleet, South Stifford and Lakeside 1

Grays and Chafford Hundred 5

Stifford Clays 6

Little Thurrock and Blackshots 7

Tilbury 5

Chadwell St Mary 3

Orsett, Bulphan and Horndon 3

Stanford West 1

Stanford East 2

Corringham and Fobbing 5

Nationally deaths in the UK have now reached a total of 29,427.

The UK now has the highest number of coronavirus deaths in Europe, according to the latest government figures.

Overall the UK now has 190,584 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 289 in Thurrock, a daily rise of two.

In today's government briefing said Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the 29,427 lives lost was "a massive tragedy" the country has "never seen before... on this scale, in this way".
