Roadside tribute as friends and neighbours say farewell

By Neil Speight 5th May 2020

FRIENDS, neighbours and members of Thurrock Rugby Club were among those who lined the streets to pay a final tribute to former vicar of St Giles in Orsett and a former Queen's Chaplain, Rev Canon Glyn Jones who died in Basildon Hospital where he was admitted suffering from coronavirus and underlying health conditions.

A funeral cortege left his home on The Close, in Stifford Clays, yesterday (Monday, 4 May) prior to a service and committal at Pitsea crematorium, where just a bare handful of family members including his widow Nita were allowed. A service was taken by Rev Sue Mann, current vicar at Orsett.

Rev Canon Jones' ashed will be interred at Bulpha and after lockdown is over it is hoped to hold a memorial service at Horndon on the Hill.

As it passed through the streets, including Long Lane, Blackshots and the Old A13 the cortege was warmly applauded.
