WHILE Thurrock is digesting news that the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the borough has risen to 134, one family have been celebrating the return to health of a much-loved victim.

Ted Sherress, 87, who is well-known in Stifford Clays, has returned home to his wife Joyce and family after recovering from Covid 19.

His recovery will be an inspiration to many of those struck down by the virus – on a day (Wednesday, 8 April) when the national number of cases was recorded at 60,733, with 7.,097 deaths.

Ted is pictured with his grandson Aston who was celebrating his birthday when Ted came home. He says: "The best birthday present ever!

"My 87 year old grandad with so many underlying health conditions has beaten coronavirus after spending 10 days in hospital! What an absolute legend! And now he's feeling better than ever, good job pa, think you deserve a pint."
