A 17-year-old boy has been charged as part of the police response to a serious assault which took place in Aveley.

The incident took place in the Recreation Park, off High Street, at about 7pm on Friday, 24 July.

An 18-year-old man sustained a serious injury to his chest. He was taken to hospital for treatment and is now in a stable condition.

Officers remained in the area late into the evening as the investigation was progressed.

As a result of the investigation, a person was arrested in Aveley on Saturday afternoon (25 July) and questioned.

A police statement today (Monday, 27 July) says: "We've now charged a 17-year-old from Aveley with GBH and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

"He is due to appear in Southend Magistrates' Court today."
