Theft shocks charity but residents respond with overwhelming generosity

A SNEAK thief stole a considerable amount of cash from a Thurrock- based animal charity - but his callous actions have been outdone by the generosity of local people who have flocked to support a fundraising page, raising more than £15,000.
The theft took place on Thursday, 14 August, prompting the South Essex Wildlife Hospital to say: "Writing this breaks our hearts but, at around 17:10 today, our hospital was robbed and a large amount of cash was stolen.
"A white male estimated to be between 25 and 30 entered our hospital reception and asked the receptionist for directions to a local garage.
"When this receptionist went to get someone local to help, this individual climbed over the reception counter and stole a large amount of money before jumping in a car and speeding away towards the A128.
"In a time where every single pound counts this is devastating for the charity.
"Not only were the funds needed for our patients taken from us, but the generosity of all of you has now been stolen too. If anyone has any information please contact Essex Police quoting reference 42/117120/25
"CCTV is being reviewed.
"We know that funds are tight for everyone right now but, if you could help us with these vital funds we would be so much more than grateful."
The response to the appeal has been remarkable, with more than £15,000 being donated already.
