TWO Purfleet women and a man from Grays have been committed to Basildon Crown Court for trial after pleading not guilty to threatening violence during an incident in Purfleet on Tuesday, 5 May.

The prosecution successful argued in an initial appearance at Basildon Magistrates' Court that the nature of the incident was so serious because of the nature and seriousness of the offence, their previous record and character and the strength of the case that they be remanded in custody.

The three are Jodie Anne Burke, 35, of Rapier Close, Purfleet, Charmaine Church, 44, of Centurian Way, Purfleet, and Kier Church, 20, of Charles Street, Grays.

The vast majority of cases listed at Essex Magistrates Court are currently being adjourned in order to comply with government guidelines on social distancing.

The courts are postponing all non-urgent work and the majority of defendants are being given extended bail conditions.
