Thurrock Council will fly the flag for armed forces

THURROCK Council will be honouring the men and women who serve in the armed forces later this month.

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June, falling this year on 29 June.

It is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from current serving personnel to service families, veterans, and cadets.

It also marks the culmination of a week celebrations, beginning on Monday 24 June, when the public show their support and appreciation for the Armed Forces community.

Thurrock will be raising its tribute flag on Monday, 24 June at 10am, outside the Town Hall in Grays and it will fly all week.

A parade to the flagpole will be led by Piper Jo Goddard, before the ceremony when the Mayor Cllr Kairen Raper, hoists the flag.

In Basildon Armed Forces Day will be marked with a town centre march starting at 12noon.

It will be a parade made up of hundreds of serving personnel, service families, veterans and cadets who will march from Toys R Us in Basildon Town Centre towards St Martin's Square.  

A flag raising ceremony, held by the Mayor of Basildon, will take place on Monday 24 June, 11am at the Basildon Centre.
