At the end of March, Thurrock Scouts celebrated the achievements of their members over the past 12 months with their awards evenings.

Taking place over two days at the Thameside Theatre in Grays, it was a chance for the District to recognise the effort and accomplishment that takes place across Thurrock during the year by everyone involved in Scouting.

More than 80 young people across the two days were celebrated for achieving their Chief Scout Award, the highest awards available to them.

Everyone received a framed certificate from the District, along with a keyring torch.

A number of adults were also recognised for their length of service to Scouting, and others were presented with their Wood Badge which marks the completion of their training.

A special award was presented to Arthur Barley who received his 60-year Long Service Award, along with an engraved plaque from the District.

Arthur has been involved with Belhus Park Scout Group for the majority of his time in Scouting, including over 47 years as the group's lead volunteer.

The District's annual Jack Petchey celebration was incorporated into the evenings, with seven Achievement Award winners and three adult volunteer award winners all receiving their certificate and medallion from the Jack Petchey Foundation.

This was memorable as they were presented by the person who nominated them for the award.

Each Achievement Award winner has previously been awarded £300 to be spent on something of their choice to benefit their Scout Section or Group.
