A THURROCK woman who has spent much of May promoting and fundraising for a great borough-based cause is coming towards the climax of her efforts.
Jen Simmons has already passed her target of walking 150 miles in May for the Changing Pathways charity that provides free support across Thurrock, Basildon, Brentwood, Castle Point, Rochford, Harlow and Epping to more than 1,000 women and their families each year. But she is continuing to the end of the month in the hope of reaching her financial goal.
Jen has already raised £250 but is hoping the last few days of the month will see her get nearer her initial target of £500.
The charity supports Thurrock's women's refuge where victims of domestic abuse and their children can find a safe haven.
And Jen hopes it will be the children that particularly benefiot from her efforts as she is hoping to spend the money she raises on fun events for them during the summer, saying: "Creating opportunities for shared fun and laughter together in a safe space can help overcome trauma, build resilience and make new, happy memories."
Jen has logged her efforts to support the charity, and raise awareness of it, via her Facebook page and she has pictured many of the places around South Essex she has visited during her walks.
