A COMMUNITY litter pick has been planned for a part of Grays this weekend.

It's been arranged in Badgers Dene by local resident Emma Sanders who is inviting local residents to join her at 10am on Saturday (7 November), starting at the end of Kiln Way in Badgers Dene with the aim of cleaning up the green space that reaches to the end of Helborine.

Emma says: "It's an area that is repeatedly used by fly-tippers and dog walkers who bag up their dog's waste yet choose to leave it lying about.

"Local Riverside ward councillor Jo Potter has helped me get a few litter pickers and bin bags to be used and she will be joining in with helping to clear up.

"This is an area that is used by hundreds of children on their way to and from Belmont Castle Academy as well as 2 Little Birds Nursery next door.

"My children are quick to point out the various fly-tipped objects on their daily walk. We've seen Hoovers, printers, buggies, shopping trollies, garden waste, builders' rubble, traffic cones, kids' toys, mattresses and even bedsheets.

"It would be nice if instead of fly-tipped items, they could enjoy the local nature and wildlife instead.

"I'm hoping this becomes something we can do on a regular basis as there is a lot of green space around Badgers Dene and unfortunately a lot of litter. If you would like to join in on Saturday with the litter picking, please send me an email ([email protected]) with the subject 'Badgers Dene litter picking'. children are welcome to join in as long as an adult is joining them."
