TipToeing around the impact of coronavirus

A POPULAR and well-known borough stage school is not letting the corona virus stop its pupils from continuing to do what they love.

TipToe Stage School, who have branches in Thurrock and Romford, have revisited the way they provide lessons, ensuring that pupils keep performing via innovative ways of learning.

This includes classes via lots of different online platforms, fun innovative online challenges and interactive catch ups which all the family can take part in.

Commenting on the current situation, school principal Julie Barker said: "Obviously everyone is still coming to terms with this different way of living and my teaching team and I very early got our heads together to see how we could support our pupils – and their families – by continuing to offer lessons and keep everyone engaged and motivated.

"As we all know, exercise and the social elements of classes are crucial for keeping all our spirits up, focusing on our mental health and we want to support and add value where we can.

"Our Vice Principals Sam, Quin, Lauren, our Festival Captain Elena and I are hosting daily online classes where we're keeping the education levels up. We're working on technical classes, creating routines and keeping fit! And these cover all genres – from Tap and Modern, to Street, Ballet Drama and Singing. Along with private lessons and anything else that is thrown our way!

"I have to say, although inspiring, the proactive solutions my team have come up with isn't surprising. And, this alongside the supportive pupils and parents we have, is what makes TipToe so successful.

"It's certainly been a couple of months of conflicting emotions. In March I was honoured to receive the Mayor's Civic Award for the borough's Lifetime Achievement with then to be confronted, as we all have, with these worrying times.

"Of course, we appreciate some people are having to work so they may not have the time with other priorities, so these classes are there for you to drop into as and when. If you're interested simply message us and we can take it from there."

This different way of continuing to provide quality tuition in stage arts comes at a difficult time for TipToe as they were due to take a group of dancers to perform at the Benidorm Palace on Good Friday. They're currently working with the Spanish authorities to get this performance rescheduled for a later date.
