A MATERNITY support worker at Basildon Hospital has received one of the country's highest honours for nursing and midwifery support staff after being recognised for the exceptional care she provides to women and families.

Evie Rogers received a Chief Midwifery Officer Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to maternity care.

The award was presented by Wendy Matthews, Regional Chief Midwife for the East of England, on behalf of England's Chief Midwife, Kate Brintworth.

The Chief Midwifery Officer Awards celebrate nurses, midwives, maternity support workers and healthcare support workers who go above and beyond their everyday roles. They recognise exceptional care, leadership, compassion and dedication to patients and colleagues.

Evie was nominated for the award by colleagues who praised her for her teamwork across the maternity unit.

They also highlighted her unwavering kindness, professionalism and commitment to supporting women and families during some of the most important moments of their lives.

The nomination also recognised Evie's ability to support some of the most vulnerable mothers in her care. Whether helping young parents with limited support networks, women facing difficult circumstances or those struggling with anxiety, she takes the time to listen, reassure and provide thoughtful, non-judgmental support.

Wendy Matthews said: "One of the most special parts of my role is presenting this award. It's always wonderful to visit maternity units and see the incredible work taking place. Evie's nomination was truly outstanding, and she is an extremely deserving recipient of this award.

Evie's heartfelt nomination went on to say that she does not simply do her job but raises the standard of care for everyone around her. It described her impact as meaningful and lasting and praised her as a shining example of skilled and compassionate maternity care.

Evie said: "I was in disbelief when my name was announced. Hearing all the wonderful things people had said about me was incredibly emotional and something I will never forget.

"Receiving this award in front of my colleagues and senior staff was a huge honour and meant an awful lot to me.

"I'm proud to be part of such a supportive team, many of whom deserve all the same praise for their hard work. To be able to help women and families during such an important time in their lives is my privilege."
