POLICE have now confirmed that a man died in a collision between a vehicle and a motorbike between Corringham and Fobbing last night (Thursday, 3 September)

A Corringham man, in his 50s, has been arrested as part of the investigation into the incident and was questioned on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, driving while over the prescribed drug limit and driving while unfit due to drink or drugs.

He has been released under investigation while the investigation progresses.

It is believed the motorbike rider was cresting the bridge over the railway line on Southend Road (B1420) between the roundabout junctions with Lampits Hill and One Tree Hill when the collision occurred.

Little information has been given about the incident other than the fatality was a man in his 40s and his family is receiving support from specialist liaison police officers.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 8.45pm. It took place very close to queueing traffic, which was related to a separate incident.

The road was closed for a sustained period while work was carried out at the scene. The road was re-opened in the early hours of this morning.

Police continue to seek witnesses to the fatal crash, saying: "We have spoken to a number of people who witnessed the incident and we're continuing to appeal for anyone who captured it on dashcam or CCTV footage to please come forward.
