A TOWN'S lengthy wait for a new Post Office is about to end.

Stanford-le-Hope has been without its own office since 2018 when the shutter came down for the last time on the Corringham Road store where it was housed.

The shop owners wanted to move the Post Office service to Rainbow Stores, about half a mile down the road, but despite an official Post Office survey into that idea, it never materialised.

Since then Stanford residents have had to use the Post Office in Corringham or shop-based services in Horndon, Chadwell St Mary and East Tilbury.

But work is now nearing completion on a new Post Office counter at the Costcutter store on London Road in Stanford-le-Hope and it is expected to open later this month with a full range of Post Office services.

Nub News will report in the opening date when it is finalised.
