A MEMBER of the animal rescue team at South Essex Wildlife Hospital joined firefighters to rescue a trapped fox which had got itself into a wheel state.

The not so crafty fox cub which had got its head wedged into the middle of a wheel on Havering Road in Romford.

The fox had been trapped for a few hours before crews were called to help.

Firefighters from Wennington made the scene safe and assisted a volunteer from South Essex Wildlife Hospital to carefully remove the cub's head from the wheel.

Havering Borough Commander Narinder Dail said: "The poor fox had been there for quite a while, but firefighters assisted the volunteer who managed to free it without too much bother.

"He was taken into the care of the wildlife hospital.

"We would always encourage people to call the RSPCA in the first instance if they see an animal stuck or in distress. But firefighters love animals too and we are always happy to assist if required."
