THE family of a teenager who died in Grays have paid tribute to him as officers continue to investigate the circumstances of his death.

Police were called to an incident at George Crooks House on New Road shortly after 3.40am on Friday, 6 October.

Officers arrived, found a disturbance had taken place and a man had sustained a serious injury.

Despite the efforts of medics, 19-year-old Ashton Rowbotham died at the scene.

Ashton's parents said: "Our heart is breaking. You are loved so much. You will always be with us."

An investigation was launched by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate who continue to work hard to establish the circumstances around this incident.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder on 6 October. A second 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary on 7 October. A 31-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary on 8 October.

All four have been bailed until 27 December.

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood said: "As our investigation into Ashton's death continues we would like to reiterate that we believe this is an isolated incident, and appreciate this will be a challenging time for the community in Grays.

"I would continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward to officers who are supporting the community with high-visibility patrols today and speak to us."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that could help the police investigation is asked to get in touch using a dedicated online portal.
