GRAYS Athletic Football Club has paid a heartfelt tribute to one of its most respected and well-loved supporters following the announcement of his death.

Former club photographer Peter Jackson has passed away following a long illness.

A statement from the club says: "Peter will be remembered at the club and beyond for his excellent time spent as the official club photographer for many years.

"Peter would be found on the touchline in any weather conditions snapping his beloved Blues. With an excellent eye for action shots and supporter-player interactions, Peter's everlasting legacy of photographing Grays Athletic FC lives on and many of his photos can be found on our website dating back to 2011.

"Giving up his time for free Peter epitomised the ethos of a first class volunteer and supporter, always there if you needed him and never one to complain about the weather conditions he often found himself in.

"Peter spent many years serving his country in the RAF but would always return to watch his beloved GAFC.

"Alongside his love of the Blues was his love of county cricket and Peter would often be found in the close football season cheering on the Essex County Cricket team at Chelmsford.

"A lifelong supporter, Peter was honoured by the club in 2019 receiving the Brian Coker award at the presentation night at the Chadwell Village Hall.

"Grays Athletic would like to express its sincere condolences to Peter's family and friends especially his brother Paul who we know will feel his loss terribly. We send our heartfelt sympathy to everyone that knew Peter, a true Blue who will never be forgotten.

"As soon as the club is informed of funeral arrangements we will update our supporters accordingly."

The RAF Association Club on Southend Road in Grays has lowered its flag to half-mast as a tribute.
